Renault’s upcoming three-row SUV has been spotted testing in India ahead of the new Duster launch. The larger Bigster-based model is expected to become Renault’s flagship SUV in the country.
Renault appears to be preparing a major comeback in India’s SUV space, and the latest spy shots suggest something bigger is on the way. A heavily camouflaged three-row SUV believed to be the Renault Bigster has been spotted testing on Indian roads, hinting that the brand is moving closer to introducing its much-awaited next-generation SUV lineup alongside the new Duster.

The test mule seen on the road carries the proportions of a larger SUV, clearly longer and more upright than the upcoming Duster. While the heavy camouflage hides most styling details, the silhouette strongly resembles the Bigster concept that Renault showcased earlier. The vehicle appears to feature a longer wheelbase, an extended rear section, and a tall, boxy stance that suggests it will be designed as a practical family SUV for the Indian market.
The sighting is significant because Renault has already confirmed plans to launch the new-generation Duster in India. The Bigster is expected to follow soon after, serving as the three-row version of the same platform. Both SUVs will be based on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF-B architecture, which supports modern powertrains, improved safety, and better interior packaging.
From the spy photos, the SUV appears to feature large alloy wheels, squared wheel arches, and a muscular stance. The upright design hints at generous cabin space, especially for the third row, which is expected to be a key selling point. Renault seems to be positioning the SUV to compete in India’s growing three-row midsize SUV segment, which currently includes popular models like the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, and Mahindra XUV700.

The front design is still largely hidden, but it is expected to borrow several elements from Renault’s new global design language. This could include a bold grille, Y-shaped LED lighting signatures, and a more rugged overall appearance compared to the outgoing Duster generation. At the rear, the SUV is likely to feature horizontal LED tail lamps and a wide tailgate to emphasize its larger proportions.
Inside, the production version is expected to share several features with the upcoming Duster. Buyers can likely expect a modern dashboard layout with a large touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, wireless smartphone connectivity, and multiple driver assistance features. Renault may also focus on improving cabin materials and technology to position the SUV as a premium offering within its lineup.
Powertrain options for the India-spec model are expected to be similar to those planned for the new Duster. The entry-level 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine may not be offered on the larger SUV. Instead, Renault is expected to use the more powerful 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine producing around 163 PS and 280 Nm, paired with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. There are also reports suggesting that a hybrid powertrain could be introduced later as part of Renault’s global electrification strategy.
Renault’s strategy with the new Duster and the Bigster-based SUV is aimed at strengthening its presence in the highly competitive SUV market in India. The company has been relatively quiet in recent years, but the upcoming launches indicate a renewed focus on expanding its product lineup with globally developed platforms.
Industry sources suggest that the next-generation Duster could arrive in India first, potentially around 2026, with the larger three-row SUV following after that. If launched as expected, the new model could become Renault’s flagship offering in the country and play a crucial role in rebuilding the brand’s SUV portfolio.
More details about the production version, including the official name for India, interior features, and exact launch timeline, are expected to emerge as Renault continues testing the vehicle in the coming months. For now, the latest spy shots confirm that Renault’s bigger and more family-focused SUV is steadily moving closer to the Indian market.
