FASTag Annual Pass Fee Hiked to ₹3,075 from April 1 — What Highway Users Need to Know

Starting April 1, 2026, highway travel in India will become slightly more expensive for frequent commuters. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced that the FASTag Annual Pass fee will increase from ₹3,000 to ₹3,075.

The hike may look small just ₹75 more per year, but it will impact millions of private vehicle owners who rely on the pass for daily or frequent highway travel.

For drivers who regularly cross toll plazas, the annual pass remains one of the most cost-effective toll payment options in India.

What the FASTag Annual Pass Actually Includes

The annual pass is designed mainly for private vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans that frequently travel on national highways.

Here’s how it works:

  • New price: ₹3,075 (from April 1, 2026)
  • Current price: ₹3,000
  • Validity: 1 year or 200 toll crossings, whichever comes first
  • Eligible vehicles: Private non-commercial vehicles only
  • Payment system: Linked to your FASTag

Once the 200 crossings limit is reached, the FASTag automatically switches back to regular toll deduction mode.

Where the Annual Pass Works

The FASTag Annual Pass is valid at around 1,100+ toll plazas across India on national highways and expressways managed by NHAI.

However, it does not apply to:

  • State highway toll plazas
  • Toll roads managed by state governments
  • Local authority toll roads

At these locations, toll charges will continue to be deducted normally from the FASTag wallet.

Why the Price Is Increasing

According to officials, the price adjustment is part of the annual toll revision mechanism used by the National Highways Authority of India.

These revisions typically account for:

  • Inflation
  • Highway maintenance costs
  • Expansion of road infrastructure
  • Toll rate adjustments across national highways

Even after the increase, the FASTag annual pass is still considered cheaper for frequent highway commuters compared to paying toll at every plaza.

Why FASTag Is Now Dominating Indian Highways

Since its nationwide rollout, FASTag has transformed toll collection in India.

Some key numbers:

  • 11+ crore FASTags issued across the country
  • 98% of toll payments now happen digitally
  • Used at 1,100+ toll plazas nationwide

The system uses RFID technology, allowing vehicles to pass toll booths without stopping, which helps reduce congestion and fuel consumption.

What This Means for Daily Highway Commuters

For drivers who travel on highways multiple times a week, the FASTag annual pass can still save significant money.

For example:

  • If a commuter crosses a toll plaza twice daily, they could reach 200 crossings within months.
  • In that case, the annual pass can reduce per-trip toll cost dramatically compared to standard toll charges.

The ₹75 increase may be small, but for millions of regular highway users, it’s still a noticeable policy update ahead of the new financial year.
