Hyundai is preparing a new compact electric SUV for India, expected to launch by late 2026 or early 2027. It will offer over 350 km range, modern features, and aggressive pricing, targeting rivals like Tata Nexon EV.
Hyundai’s upcoming compact electric SUV has been spotted testing once again on Indian roads, this time in Goa. The fresh sighting indicates that the development is moving at a steady pace, bringing the model closer to its expected launch timeline.
As per current indications, Hyundai could introduce this new electric SUV either by the end of 2026 or in early 2027.
Interestingly, the test mule was seen parked at a charging station alongside the upcoming Kia Carens Clavis EV GT Line, hinting at ongoing real-world testing of Hyundai Group’s future EV lineup.
Design Details Start to Emerge
Even though the prototype remains heavily camouflaged, several design elements can be identified from the latest spy shots.
The SUV carries a tall and upright stance, somewhat similar to the Hyundai Venue, giving it a strong road presence despite its compact footprint. The front end is expected to feature slim LED daytime running lamps with a segmented pattern, while the main headlamp units are positioned lower on the bumper.
At the rear, vertically placed reflectors on the bumper add a slightly rugged touch. Other noticeable elements include flush-type door handles, black roof rails, and a prominent roof spoiler with an integrated stop lamp.
The test vehicle also appears to be running on aero-optimised alloy wheels, likely around 16 inches, along with a shark fin antenna.
Interior & Features (Expected)
While interior details are still under wraps, Hyundai is expected to equip the SUV with features seen in its latest models.
The cabin will likely include a large touchscreen infotainment system (around 10 inches or more), a fully digital instrument cluster, and connected car technology. There is also a strong possibility of Level 2 ADAS features being offered, which could make it one of the more advanced options in its segment.
Battery, Range & Charging
In terms of performance, Hyundai is expected to offer multiple battery pack options for this compact EV.
The larger battery variant could deliver a driving range of over 350 km on a single charge. DC fast charging support is also expected, making it suitable for both city commutes and occasional long-distance travel.
Positioning & Competition
This new electric SUV will likely be positioned below the Hyundai Creta Electric in the brand’s India lineup, making it more accessible to a wider audience.
Once launched, it will compete with models like the Tata Nexon EV and the upcoming Mahindra XUV3XO EV, both of which are strong players in the compact electric SUV space.
Hyundai’s Bigger EV Strategy
This model aligns with Hyundai’s previously announced plan to expand its EV portfolio in India. During its October 2025 investor presentation, the company confirmed that it is working on new SUVs tailored specifically for the Indian market.
The upcoming compact EV is expected to be heavily localised, which should help Hyundai keep costs competitive while offering modern features and practical driving range. With testing now underway in multiple locations, Hyundai’s new compact electric SUV is shaping up to be an important launch for the brand in India.
