Get ready, India.
Someone saw the new Kia Syros EV being tested at a charging station, and this changes everything.
Kia is getting ready to make its most important mass-market electric SUV yet. It will be called the Kia EV9, and it is being put through its paces on Indian roads.
This isn’t just another electric vehicle debut.
This SUV could be the one that shakes up Tata and Mahindra in 2026.
Kia Syros EV Spotted at Charging in Public!
A well camouflaged prototype of the Syros EV was reportedly seen plugged into a public charging station at Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, which is near Kia’s India factory.
What does this mean?
It proves that experiments of charging in the real world are going on.
The battery validation phase is on.
The launch date is getting closer.
Kia is testing how well it can handle heat in India.
- Split LED headlamp design
- Closed-off upper grille (typical EV styling)
- Lower air intake with possible active flaps
- Exclusive 17-inch aero alloys
- Flush roof rails
This isn’t just a battery swap.
It looks properly engineered as an EV.
Kia Syros EV Expected Battery & Range – 500KM Claim?
The Syros EV is expected to come with:
- Two battery pack options
- LFP battery cells (likely sourced locally)
- Single-motor FWD layout
Expected Range:
- Standard variant: 350–400 km
- Long-range variant: 475–500 km (claimed)
If Kia manages even 420–450 km real-world range, it will directly challenge:
- Tata Nexon EV
- Mahindra XUV400
- MG ZS EV
- Hyundai Creta Electric
And possibly undercut some of them on pricing.
Performance: LFP vs. NMC
There is a lot of talk about what will power the Syros EV. Some global models might employ NMC cells, however there are strong rumors that the Indian model will use LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) cells from Exide Energy to keep costs low and safety high.
| Battery Options | Estimated Real-World Range | Who is it for? |
| 42 kWh (Standard) | ~315 km | City commuters & office goers. |
| 50-52 kWh (Long Range) | ~475 – 500 km | Highway road-trippers and “one-car” families. |
Charging Performance:The test mules were seen at DC fast chargers with 60kW and 120kW of power. You can get a 10% to 80% charge in about 30 minutes, so those “Chai breaks” on the highway are the perfect time to power up.
Interior – Premium & Feature-Loaded?
Although there are few internal spy images, but can expect
- Dual screens measuring 12.3 inches each
- EV-specific graphics for screen displays
- Shifters on the paddles for the regen control
- Front seats that are ventilated
- Front seats that can be slid and reclined
- a lighting environment with 64 colors
- The sound system by Harman Kardon
- camera that is 360 degrees
- The ADAS Level 2
At a price of less than ₹22 lakh, Kia has the potential to shake up the market segment.
Safety & ADAS
Kia takes safety very seriously. The Syros EV is being made to get a 5-star BNCAP rating.
ADAS Level 2: You may expect Front Collision Warning, Lane Keep Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Control, which is great for the new highways.
The “All-Seeing” Eye is a camera that can see in all directions and has a Blind View Monitor. When you turn on the indication, a video feed of your blind spot appears on the digital instrument cluster.
The Dashcam: A dual-dashcam that comes with the car will probably be included in the package, which will save you the trouble (and risk of cutting wires) of installing it yourself.
Expected Price & Launch Timeline
Kia is going after the “Sweet Spot” in the Indian electric vehicle industry. They want to get a great pricing on the Syros EV by making it at their Anantapur facility with a lot of local parts.
Base Variant: Starting at ₹13.99 Lakh (for Punch EV & Nexon EV Creative).
Top Variant: The highest price is ₹19.49 Lakh, which is for the Nexon EV Empowered+ and Windsor EV.
Launch Date: The official price will be announced by June 2026, and deliveries will commence soon after.
Which Cars Will the Kia Syros EV Compete With
