The Indian car market is changing, and the “Big Daddy of SUVs” isn’t falling behind. Mahindra & Mahindra has officially announced that its next big “Born Electric” (BE) SUV, which is now known as B07, will be available on Indian roads in 2027.
This SUV is based on the futuristic BE.07 concept that was initially shown off in 2022 and is expected to be a “massive volume driver.” This 2027 timeline is the most important upgrade in Mahindra’s ₹12,000 crore EV plan for people in India who love cars or are thinking about buying an EV.
The Big Confirmation: Why 2027?
Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director and CEO (Auto & Farm Sector) at Mahindra, cleared things up on a recent earnings call in February 2026. The BE 6, XEV 9e, and XEV 9S will all be delivered in 2025 and 2026, but the B07 is the most important weapon for 2027.
Mahindra is now expanding its Chakan facility to manage a huge increase in EV production, with the goal of making 8,000 units a month by April 2026. The B07 is the car that will help those statistics go even higher.
Design & Dimensions

The BE 6 (the “Batman” car) and XEV 9e appear like they came from a sci-fi movie, but the B07 (BE.07) is made for the traditional Indian family. It has a more upright, authoritative stance, which is exactly what Indian consumers like about the Scorpio and XUV700.
Key Dimensions (Based on Concept): Length: 4,565 mm (A little longer than a Creta/Seltos, a little shorter than a XUV700)
Width: 1,900 mm (Wide base for more stability)
1,660 mm tall
Wheelbase: 2,775 mm (which should give you a lot of legroom)
The design has the distinctive C-shaped LED daytime running lights and a streamlined, “Aero-efficient” body that helps the car go as far as possible without losing its rugged SUV DNA.
Performance & Battery
The INGLO Platform, which was built with Volkswagen, will be used to build the B07. This isn’t just a car with a different engine; it’s an electric vehicle from the ground up.
| Feature | Expected Specifications |
| Battery Options | 59 kWh and 79 kWh (LFP Chemistry) |
| Real-World Range | 450 km to 500+ km |
| Power Output | ~230 PS (Rear Wheel Drive) |
| Torque | Close to 400 Nm |
| 0-100 km/h | Under 7 seconds |
| Fast Charging | 20% to 80% in 20 mins (175kW DC) |
Interior & Tech: The “Triple Screen” Era
Mahindra is putting more money into “Screen-Estate.” The B07 is likely to have a huge triple-screen layout that covers the whole dashboard.
- Screen 1: A digital instrument cluster for the driver.
- Screen 2: Central Infotainment (Maps, Music, Settings).
- Screen 3: Display for passengers (OTT apps like Netflix and YouTube, games).
Tip: Mahindra is building the “MAIA” AI system, which is like a brain for the automobile. It lets you control features with your voice and changes the lighting based on your mood.
Price Expectation
The B07 will be between the BE 6 (Premium Compact) and the XEV 9e (Luxury Flagship).
Estimated Base Price: ₹24.99 Lakh (battery with 59 kWh)
Estimated Highest Price: ₹29.99 Lakh (79 kWh battery with all-wheel drive)
This puts it right in the sights of the Tata Harrier EV, the Hyundai Creta EV, and the Maruti eVitara.
Why a 2027 Launch?
At first, Mahindra wanted this electric SUV to come out in late 2026, but they pushed it back to 2027, which was verified at a business earnings call.
What took so long? Some such reasons are:
- Last touches on EV technology
- Getting batteries and other parts from the right places
- Timing the market because EV uptake is slowing down
Delays are frequent when EVs are rolled out, and they usually happen because it’s hard to find the right balance between cost, performance, and customer expectations.
Major Rivals in India
- Tata Harrier EV
- BYD Atto 3 / Dolphin EV
- MG Comet EV (future)
- VinFast VF7 (import)
This segment is heating up as automakers push for premium EVs. Mahindra’s challenge will be to outperform not just on price, but range, features, and real-world performance.
Mahindra EV Lineup : Where This SUV Fits
Mahindra’s current and upcoming EVs include:
- Mahindra BE 6 – compact SUV
- Mahindra XEV 9e – mid-size crossover
- Mahindra XEV 9S – 7-seater EV SUV
- BE.07 (2027 SUV) – premium born electric
This illustrates Mahindra’s layered strategy from affordable EVs to premium offerings.
Controversies & Challenges
The delay from late 2026 to 2027 has caused the most trouble so yet, making fans and investors worried.
Some others say these delays could hinder Mahindra’s chances of getting a foothold in the early EV market. Supporters claim that the extra time could make the product better.
So…
The next electric SUV from Mahindra, which is set to come out in 2027, is one of the most talked-about EVs in India right now. This car is built on the INGLO platform and is probably based on the BE.07 concept.
It shows that Mahindra wants to move into the high-end electric SUV market. Even though the entire specs and prices aren’t available yet, consumers are quite excited because they want strong EVs with real-world range, advanced technology, and features that work in India.
Like all ambitious EV launches, there are problems, such as delays and having to compete with competitive competitors. However, if this SUV is done properly, it might change Mahindra’s EV strategy and help speed up the adoption of EVs across India.
